In rural Denmark, 60 year old Pia lives with her elderly mother. Pia, who has an intellectual disability, believes it’s high time she finds a boyfriend. Though the script is fiction, Pia and her mother are real, acting as versions of themselves. Borgman’s poetic and genre-defying film contains remarkable elegance beneath its simple exterior. Granular 16mm film captures sun-dappled conversations at the kitchen table. Conversations about deep emotions, in the simplest of terms.
